Holder urges players to keep on learning

COLOMBO – West Indies captain Jason Holder has called on his batsmen to learn quickly after a distressing display that contributed to a 72-run defeat in the second cricket Test yesterday, and ultimately, the 2-0 sweep by Sri Lanka in the Sobers-Tissera series.

The West Indies totals in the series were inadequate – 251 and 227 at Galle, 163 and 171 in Colombo – and there was only one half-century partnership across the four innings.

Darren Bravo, two, and Jermaine Blackwood were the only players to register fifties. No one averaged more than Bravo’s 36.

“I think it’s clear we need to work on our temperament,” the first-time skipper said.

“At times, we have to be a bit more patient and know which phases of the game to hang in and which phases when we can attack.”
