Goolie hits trial century

West Indies Under-19 player Jyd Goolie smashed a century on the opening day of the latest trial match yesterday, as the national senior team prepares for the Sportsmax Digicel Professional Cricket League (PCL) in the Caribbean.

Playing for Marlon Richards XI at the Avidesh Samaroo Recreation ground, the left handed Goolie played a brilliant knock to address the national selectors. Throughout the trials, the Southener has been among the runs but carried on to the big one yesterday. He scored 107 as Richards XI made 219.

Richards was also among the runs with 39 and spinner Khary Pierre got 33. Veteran Rayad Emrit (3/20) was the best of the bowlers for Yannick Ottley’s team while Namir Suepaul took 2/31. Pacer Akeel Seetal  grabbed 2/24. Ottley’s XI responding at the close was seven without loss.

The T&T Red Force will play their opening game on November 11 against the Windwards Volcanoes at the Queen’s Park Oval. This match will be a day/night affair, as the WICB is looking to introduce the First Class cricketers to the pink ball.

The match continues today at 10am.
