Carriah, Lewis knock up half-centuries in trials

Yannic Carriah and Evin Lewis warmed up for the upcoming Regional Super50 cricket series with aggressive half centuries in the first national trial match for the T&T Red Force at the Queen’s Park Oval yesyesterday.

Playing for Marlon Richards’ team, Carriah scored 99 not out, while Lewis slammed 80, as they made little work of the small target set by Yannic Ottley’s team. Ottley’s team batted first and scored 147 all out in 42.5 overs, after winning the toss. the only batsmen to show fight were Nicholas Alexis with 56 and Kjorn Ottley with 43. Alexis the tall opener faced 76 balls, hitting four fours and two sixes. Ottley struck three fours in his 77-ball knock. The pick of the bowlers for Richards’ XI were spinners Ricky Jaipaul 3/15 and Imran Khan 3/19, while Kevon Cooper nabbed 2/7.

Richards’ team lost Jeremy Solozano cheaply but Lewis and Carriah took the score to 119 before Lewis left. The management of the Red Force allowed Richards’ team to bat out their overs, despite easily passing the winning target. When play was called Carriah was left unbeaten on 99 and Akeal Hosein 34.
