KINGSTON, JAMAICA – The West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) extends whole-hearted congratulations to Sir Richie Richardson on receiving an honorary doctorate from the University of the West Indies (UWI) Five Islands Campus.
Richard Benjamin Richardson was born on January 12, 1962, in Antigua and Barbuda, and is a former West Indies cricketer and captain. Sir Richardson amassed 5949 Test runs at an average of 44.39 and 6248 ODI runs at an average of 33.41. Following his last international in 1996, Richardson went on to become a team manager and referee. He was appointed Knight Commander of the Order of the Nation (KCN) by the Antiguan Barbudan government in 2014 and appointed to the elite panel of match referees by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2015.
Sir Richardson received the honorary doctorate for his contribution to sport on Saturday, October 8, 2022.
