Sir Viv backs Hurricanes to go all the way In Super50

Legendary West Indies captain and former Leeward Islands player, Sir Vivian Richards, is betting on the sub-regional squad to go all the way in the ongoing Regional Super50 here in Antigua.

The Leeward Islands Hurricanes have won all three of their Group A matches to date and have also posted the tournament’s highest total so far this year with 333 against the Windward Islands Volcanoes last Sunday.

According to Sir Viv, the Hurricanes team is a seemingly well-rounded one with a number of talented players who could make the difference in this year’s tournament.

“There seems to be a vast improvement, the commitment and also the inclusion of maybe a Marlon Samuels with his experience is of added help and you have also, Kevon Cooper that I think in that particular format … that he is a worthwhile performer. He can give you both dimensions in both of his variety and what he brings with the ball and if there are quick runs [to get] at a particular time, he can get that,” he said.

“Young Akeal Hosein, I think he is a talented individual with bat and ball so … when you look at the team itself and the way in which the guys approached the matches they would have won, there is a renewed vigour and confidence,” he added.

The Hurricanes take on defending champions, T&T Red Force in a crucial match on Thursday at the Coolidge Cricket Ground.
