Jason Mohammed’s brilliant innings of 122 stood tall and resisted a spirited fight back from the Barbados Pride bowlers, as he propelled Trinidad & Tobago Red Force to a tense three-wicket victory with five balls.

The result means the Red Force join Guyana Jaguars as the unbeaten teams in the tournament, while Barbados suffered their third defeat and remain without a point after three matches. Mohammed faced 160 balls and struck 10 fours and three sixes to be named the CG Insurance Man-of-the-Match.

The win was also set-up by Kieron Pollard’s 5-17 off three overs at the end of the Barbados innings, which restricted them to 253-9 off their 50 overs, to which Trinidad & Tobago replied with 256-7 off 49.1 overs.

Despite losing Kjorn Ottley (four) in the second over of the run chase to left-arm medium pacer Dominic Drakes, Evin Lewis (61) and Mohammed settled the Red Force innings with a solid 117 run second-wicket partnership.

With the Red Force seemingly in cruise control and Lewis looking ominous and on the verge to his sixth List A hundred and second of the tournament, Barbados Pride would strike back. Roston Chase (3-21) who had an excellent all-round game with bat and ball, got the wickets of Lewis, Denesh Ramdin (10) and Nicholas Pooran without scoring.

Then when Drakes got to the huge wicket of captain Kieron Pollard, caught by Shamarh Brooks at point, Trinidad & Tobago had slipped from 121-2 in the 21st over to 158-5 in the 32nd – Barbados were firmly back in the contest.

Mohammed was dismissed looking to hit the winning runs off Barbados Pride captain Jason Holder, he got ample support from Sunil Narine (18) and Akeal Hosein (20 not out) in their respective sixth and seventh wicket partnerships.

Earlier, the Barbados Pride after being asked to bat were limited to 253-9 off their 50 overs. Justin Greaves (62) who has been tasked with opening the batting, stuck his maiden List A half-century while left-hander Jonathan Carter (56) and Chase (56) added 102 for the fourth wicket to hold innings together.

Mohammed reflected on the game and his century said:

“It’s a nice feeling to score a century. In the first two games I had two starts and didn’t carry on, so once I got that start today, I knew it was important to get a score for myself and more importantly help the team to a victory.”
