Major boost in prize money pool for players

ST.JOHN’S—The prize money pool for the 2015-16 WICB Professional Cricket League (PCL) has been increased significantly from US$30,000 to more than US$120,000.

Making the announcement on Tuesday the WICB said it was excited about the increase which it feels will encourage players and enhance the competition in the tournament.

In addition to the usual Player-of-the-Match and season-ending awards, teams in each round will now receive US $3,000 for each outright victory under the new pay structure for the Tournament.

“We ultimately want as many players as possible fighting for the 11 starting spots in the West Indies Test team, and the WICB is committed to doing all that we can to encourage robust performances from our players and we believe this new cash prize incentive is one way to achieve this.”

“We are sure that the increase in prize money will encourage the players to play more purposefully and we hope will really help to build the competitive environment in the Tournament,” said Chief Executive Officer of the WICB, Michael Muirhead.

The champion team will receive US 15,000, the runners up US 5,000 while awards of US 1,500 will be handed to the players scoring the most runs, taking the most wickets, the most catches as well as to the top all-rounder. (CMC)
