ST. JOHN’S, Antigua — Evin Lewis smashed a blistering hundred to hand Trinidad and Tobago Red Force a five-wicket victory over the Jamaica Scorpions in Match 4 of the CG Insurance Super50 Cup, at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Thursday.

This was the first match at this venue on a fresh pitch and Jamaica Scorpions finished their 50 overs on 258-6. Trinidad & Tobago Red Force easily reached the target as they made 259-5 off 40.5 overs.

Lewis dominated the Jamaica bowlers and played some amazing shots to register his sixth List A century in his 83rd innings. The left-hander hit seven sixes and eight fours in a whirlwind 107 off 92 balls to earn the CG Insurance Man-of-the-Match award.Evin Lewis v Jamaica - Super50 MoM.jpg

After Lewis was caught at deep midwicket off Andre McCarthy, Darren Bravo and Nicholas Pooran ensured their team achieved the win without alarm.

Bravo finished on 59 not out from 59 balls, which included five sixes and two fours while Pooran added 43 from 39 balls. Off-spinner McCarthy was the Scorpions best bowler, with 2-30 followed by left-arm chinaman specialist Dennis Bulli 2-84.

Lewis said:

“It feels good coming in today for our first game, backing our skills and our abilities… It was a pretty good wicket to execute and get a good score. We have a strong batting line-up but every player has to be responsible for their own actions, so it’s important that we go out and execute.”

Earlier in the day, Brandon King anchored the Scorpions innings with a career-best knock of 97 which more than doubled his previous best score List A score of 48. The classy right-hander took a liking to the pace and length that the ball kissed his bat, as he smashed six fours and three sixes. However, going for a pull shot, he missed to give fast bowler Anderson Phillip one of his three wickets.Trinidad v Jamaica - Super50.jpg

The Scorpions middle-order batsmen added a flurry of runs to take their team to a respectable total. Andre McCarthy enjoyed a good match as he struck 40 after sustaining a blow to the stomach from Phillip while captain Rovman Powell struck a quick 43 off 44 balls, which included a pair of sixes and fours. Fast bowler Phillip ran in with lots and energy and got the reward of 3-66 from 10 overs.

Next match: Leeward Islands Hurricanes vs Guyana Jaguars on Friday at CCG. First ball 1:30pm (12:30pm Jamaica Time).
