Jaguars Back On Top In Group B As The Race For The Top Spot Continues

JOHN’S, Antigua- Christopher Barnwell’s 89 runs led Guyana Jaguars to a 5-wicket victory over the Leeward Islands Hurricanes. Cementing their lead in Group B. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Romario Shepherd removed Hurricanes stand-in Captain, Kofie James for 2. Keacy Carty then took it upon himself to get the innings going after Akeem Charles also fell for 2 to Keemo Paul. Carty eventually fell for 15. Devon Thomas then had a masterclass in batting for his teammates as he struck a patient 103 not out, while the rest of his team were losing their wickets. He had a 55-run partnership with Terrance Warde and then combined with Justin Athanaze for 44 runs together. Leeward Islands Hurricanes finished their innings on 216/8. Bowling for the Jaguars, Devendra Bishoo took 3/35 while Romario Shepherd had 3/40.

In their reply, Jaguars got off to a solid start from Chnaderpaul Hemraj and Shivanarine Chanderpaul taking them to 41, when Warde accounted for Hemraj for 30. Shivnarine Chanderpaul fell shortly after for 14, once again to Warde. In came Shimron Hetmyer and then Captain Leon Johnson, who made 14. Hetmyer was joined by Christopher Barnwell and the duo put on the match-winning partnership of 144 runs. Barnwell smashed 8 fours and 2 sixes while Hetmyer had 4 fours. Warde once again accounted for the next Jaguars wicket to fall, which was that of Barnwell for 89. Hetmyer remained until the end to ensure his team’s victory. They reached their target of 217 in 47.1 overs with 5 wicket remaining. Terrance Warde was the best Hurricanes bowler, taking 4/37.

Jamaica Scorpions vs Kent CCC

Andre Russell’s 108 not out help secured an important win for the Scorpions against Kent with to score an exciting three -wickets win. He built a 76-run partner with Brandon King, who fell for 43. Then Russell and Peat Salmon shared 71 runs together, with Russell being the aggressor. This win has placed the Scorpions in second place and will set the pace for an interesting battle with the Guyana Jaguars this Friday at the Coolidge Cricket Ground starting at 2pm/1pm Jamaica time. The Spitfires’ Daniel Bell-Drummond had a superb time smashing 105 not out; while he had support from wicketkeeper Adam Rouse, who was on 75 not out. Kent posted 239/5 from their 50 overs. Fabian Allen was the best Scorpions bowler, with 2/35 from 10 overs. Steven Taylor once again had a bad outing with the bat, falling for 0 and Trevon Griffith 3. Kent’s Captain, Joe Denly was their best bowler with 3/53.
