Nash fails in Kent reply

CANTERBURY, England - West Indies batsman Brendan Nash was dismissed for 11 runs as Kent struggled to negotiate the Northants bowling attack on the third day's play of the LV County Championship. Responding to Northants first innings total of 418, Kent closed the day's play on 280 for six, trailing by 138-runs. Starting the day on 123 for three, Kent lost the early wicket of Nash before rain disrupted play after lunch. Mike Powell (61) and Darren Stevens (57) combined for a fifth-wicket partnership of 101, but they both fell after tea, leaving the hosts in trouble.

Lara reveals batting inspiration

LONDON, England - Former West Indies captain, Brian Lara revealed that the three cricketers who inspired his batting were Allan Border, David Gower and Roy Fredericks. "I admired any left-hander who could score runs against the might of the West Indies attack of the time," said Lara. "Roy Fredericks was definitely my idol but I truly admired David and AB for their style and the way they went about playing against us. I tried to pick up something unique from each player - with David it was my flair, while there was a little bit of Allan's grit and determination in my game, too."

Sarwan rescues Leicestershire innings

GRACE ROAD, England - Ramnaresh Sarwan continued his good form for Leicestershire, finishing unbeaten on 61 against Essex in their LV County Division Two match. Sarwan staballised the innings with a responsible knock with Will Jefferson (41) the only other batsman to make a signigicant contribution. Leicestershire leads by 111 runs and are trying to force a come from behind victory. Essex were dismissed for 409 in reply to Leicestershire's first innings total of 372.
