WIPA and Lay Management Group Extend Condolences to Parents of Accident Victims

WIPA, its Executive and Members and the Lay Management Group extend their heart-felt and sincerest condolences to parents of the cricket fans who perished tragically in last Saturday’s calamitous vehicular accident. It has expressed its great shock and deep sadness. The pain of this sudden and unexpected loss is even more distressing on learning that the victims were on their way to witness the cricket and football games—Balls of Fire-- which the players’ representative body and the LAY Management Group had organized at the Queen’s Park Oval to raise funds for charity and to expose spectators, especially the younger ones, to some of the well-known Caribbean craftsmen in the games. Among the Directors of LAY Management are Brian Lara and Dwight Yorke. They together with Dinanath Ramnarine, and Daren Ganga participated in the games.

Balls of Fire Fills Oval to Capacity

The Historic Sports Double Header-dubbed Balls of Fire –attracted thousands of spectators, filling the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago to capacity on the evening of Saturday August 15, 2009. It has been estimated that over 22,000 fans were present to witness the 20/20 cricket match and the football game that followed. It was the first time that such a large crowd has attended a sporting event at this venue since floodlights were installed just over a year ago. Fans started queuing up long before the scheduled opening of the gates at 2.00 p.m. The cricket match started at 5.00 p.m; the football game at 8.30 p.m.

Tickets going fast for Saturday’s 20/20 cricket and football matches
The West Indies Players Association has today confirmed that it is very pleased with the tickets sales for the “Balls of Fire” event to be held this Saturday 15th August at the Queen’s Park Oval. The growing demand of the public to this historic and unique event has in fact caused the organizers to print more tickets.

Fans are anticipating an evening of great entertainment and the opportunity to see the best of Trinidad and Tobago take on some of the more illustrious cricketers in the West Indies followed by a keenly contested annual football match between the cricketers and the Strike Squad.

WIPA and LAY Management Group Team up for Balls of Fire

0582-09-wipa-b-o-f-33x7_small.jpgWIPA in conjunction with LAY Management Group today launched their upcoming event ‘Balls of Fire’ – A Historic Sports Double Header and A Celebration of Trinidad & Tobago’s National Cricket and Football Teams. A Trinidad & Tobago Cricket Team captained by Brian Charles Lara will take on a WI Players’ Team captained by Christopher Gayle in a 20/20 encounter. Immediately following the two teams will combine and show their football prowess as they take on the 1989 Strike Squad in what promises to be an enthralling football match. The Little Magician, Russell Latapy, current T&T Football Coach will be lined up alongside his good friend Brian Charles Lara as they play with the Strike Squad captained by Clayton Morris. This exciting event takes place on Saturday 15th August, 2009 at Queen’s Park Oval. On hand today and making remarks were Brian Charles Lara, Dinanath Ramnarine, Daren Ganga and Clayton Morris.
