WIPA 20/20 CLUB CHAMPIONS LEAGUE 2009 PDF Print E-mail

There was a novel launching of WIPA’s Second Annual Club Champions League on the evening of Wednesday April 29, 2009 at Guaracara Park. A Press Conference, hosted by the President and CEO of WIPA, Dinanath Ramnarine, was held during the interval between innings of a 20/20 match between the Association’s All Star XI and defending champions of 2008, Powergen Sports

President Ramnarine reminded the large turn-out of members of the press corps and spectators that WIPA’s main thrust in organizing the tournament is to focus on building clubs, strengthening their relationships with communities and constituents they represent as well as developing camaraderie and friendship that, according to him, are so important for the enhancement and sustainability of West Indies cricket.

Speaking on behalf of players, Samuel Badree, captain of Powergen, complimented WIPA on staging this tournament for another year. He had no doubt that it would surpass the successes of the inaugural one. He was effusive in his comments about the attendance of families at the matches and the tremendous enthusiasm created in the community where his club is located. The Powergen captain appealed to supporters and the cricket-loving public to come out in their numbers to show the same measure of support that they provided last year (2008).

Also last but definitely not least President Ramnarine was deeply appreciative of the confidence and continuing support shown by sponsors Toyota Trinidad and Tobago Limited, TCL Group of Companies, KFC and National Lotteries Control Board.
