Narsingh DeonarineWhile the super star batsmen such as Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul are out injured and talisman all rounder Dwayne Bravo and the world’s hottest Twenty20 merchandise Kieron Pollard are on contract in Australia, the future stars of Trinidad & Tobago and Guyana will do battle at the Queens Park Oval tomorrow (Wednesday Jan 20th) in what has been described as an emotional match to raise funds for the victims of the Haiti earthquakes.

Selectees to the West Indies squad for the imminent tour to Australia – Denesh Ramdin, Lendl Simmons, Ravi Rampaul, Narsingh Deonarine and Travis Dowlin – will all be on show for what is expected to be a sold out match at the QPO.

Trinidad & Tobago will have their inspirational captain Daren Ganga at the helm and he has already said the game will be an emotional one given the purpose for which it is being played.

Ramdin and Simmons have both recently found excellent form after striking hundreds in the second round of the WICB Regional First Class tournament, ironically against Guyana.

Deonarine too hit a hundred in the game which was drawn and which was the first to be played with a pink ball and under lights in the Caribbean.

In Sarwan’s absence Guyana will be captained by Sewnarine Chattergoon who also had a good game with the bat in Antigua, making 73 in the second innings.

Antics-filled left arm spinner Dave Mohammed will be part of the Trinbagonian spin barrage which will also include Samuel Badree, Imran Khan and Sherwin Ganga.

The game may very well come down to a clash of the spinners as the Guyanese also have competent spinners in their line-up in the person of Devendra Bishoo, Veerasammy Permaul, Royston Crandon and the always economical Deonarine.

The T&T openers too – Simmons and the dashing William Perkins – are expected to produce major fireworks at the top of the order even though they are missing Windies duo in Adrian Barath and Darren Bravo who are both injured.

Tickets have been going briskly and the QPO is expected to be packed to capacity as fans show their support for their Caribbean brothers and sisters in Haiti while enjoying what is sure to be an entertaining Twenty20 clash.
