 It has become clear that the public, and indeed Dr Hilaire, must be informed of the background to the New York Agreement (NYA). Dr Hilaire’s appointment dates back to October 2009 and his statements on this agreement make it clear that he needs to be filled in.
The relevant clause of the NYA provided as follows: “5. The WIPA and the WICB agree to discontinue without reservation all outstanding matters with the aim of starting on a clean page, with the exception of those matters:
(i) that are referred to in this agreement;
(ii) that are the subject of the above said Special Arbitration under the CARICOM Prime Ministerial Sub Committee on Cricket; and
In this regard, the WICB agrees to pay the sum of US$450,000 as final settlement.” |

 Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago - The West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) has responded to an article written by Tony Cozier, which appeared in the Sunday’s Express (Trinidad and Tobago) of April 18, 2010.
Cozier in his report stated that “their (WIPA’s) lawyers, acting on behalf of Pollard who is not contracted to the WICB, would sue for loss of earnings”. WIPA laments this statement for the following reasons: Mr. Cozier, did not contact WIPA to clarify the information despite the fact that WIPA’s doors and phone lines are open to all who wish to obtain information and despite WIPA’s requests in the past to Mr. Cozier to be afforded an opportunity to present its position so that reports are balanced and fair; |

 In response to the media release by the WICB on Friday January 29th 2010, WIPA makes the following points:
• Dr Hilaire’s comment regarding “airing of issues in the media” is puzzling, particularly in light of past behaviour by the WICB who frequently used the media during the conflict between the parties in July 2009 and beyond. WIPA considers that unless bound by a confidentiality agreement, there are no secrets. WIPA believes that the West Indian public deserves to know the facts and cannot understand the WICB’s insistence on secrecy and is baffled by the suggestion that hiding the facts from the public is mature.
• WIPA does not attack WICB policies when it cannot get its way. WIPA attacks no-one, but merely states the facts. An examination of the past year will reveal in fact that WIPA has said little to the press. In WIPA’s view it is not about any party getting its way but rather a question of honouring agreements, properly representing the players and doing its best for the good of West Indies cricket. WIPA cannot and will not act as a rubber stamp for the WICB. |

 His Excellency President George Richards has kindly agreed to meet the players of both teams before the start of the fund-raising match for the earthquake victims in Haiti. The national cricket teams of Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago will participate in the game at the Queen’s Park Oval on Wednesday January 20, 2010 starting at 6.30 p.m. His Excellency will be accompanied by his wife, Her Excellency Dr. Jean Ramjohn-Richards.
The organizers of this event- the West Indies Players’ Association, the Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board and the Guyana Cricket Board- are particularly pleased that Their Excellencies have made themselves available to lend support to this humanitarian cause, in spite of their busy schedule and the shortness of the invitation.

 Otis Gibson, West Indies' incoming coach, believes there is sufficient talent in the region to turn the fortunes of Caribbean cricket around, despite the ignominy of their bruising one-day tour of Australia, in which they failed to win a single match in either the 50 or 20-over format.
Gibson, who arrived in Antigua this week to meet with WICB officials, has had a number of conversations with the captain Chris Gayle ahead of taking up his position for the visit of Zimbabwe, which starts with a Twenty20 in Trinidad on February 28. He joins a threadbare team stripped of key players through injury, which has won just two of their last 24 matches since reaching the World Twenty20 semi-finals in June, amid the lingering threat of disputes between the board and players' association. |

 In an effort to improve on its effectiveness and expand its internal capacity to deliver high level sporting events successfully to the Cricketing public, WIPA will be sending its Events Manager, Ms. Monique Ragbir to The Sport Event Management and Organisation Seminar (SEMOS) and conference, in Lausanne conducted by the International Academy of Sport Science & Technology (AISTS), from February 1st to 5th 2010.
The Sport Event Management and Organisation Seminar (SEMOS) offers an overview of the key tasks that sports managers need to successfully plan, communicate and operate when organising sport events. SEMOS brings together leaders of International Sport Federations and other experts of the AISTS network, including the International Olympic Committee, to create a seminar that is both pertinent and practical, and recognises the increased expectations of spectators, media and sponsors at major events. |

The Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) teams arrive tonight to take part in the fund-raising cricket match to be held at the Queen’s Park Oval tomorrow, beginning at 6.30 p. m. Their respective captains, Daren Ganga (T&T) and Sewnarine Chattergoon (Guyana) have already indicated how keen their teams are to contribute to this charitable cause and to continue their rivalry between each other on the field of play. Only a few days ago they were engaged in a keenly-contested game in Antigua in the first ever day/night match in the regional series. Centuries were scored by Lendl Simmons (T&T) and Narsingh Deonarine (Guyana) in that game. Both players are among 15-man squad selected to play for the West Indies in its to tour Australia next month where they will be involved in 5 One-Day and 2 Twenty/20 Internationals. The Trinidad and Tobago team will be making its first appearance before its home crowd since its outstanding performances in the Airtel Champions League two months ago. |
