Dwayne Bravo turned in a fine all round performance for his newest team – the Victoria Bushrangers – as they beat world club champions New South Wales Blues in their second game of the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash to take pole position.
Bravo last faced the Blues in Trinidadian colours in the final of the Champions League in India and ended up on the losing side on that occasion. On home turf at the MCG, Bravo first delivered four overs for 32 runs while knocking back 3 wickets then came in at a critical late stage of the Bushrangers innings to fire 18 runs from 8 balls with a four and two sixes as he edged his team over the line.
The Blues made 178 for 6 in 20 overs with David Warner getting a top score of 40, Steve Smith hitting 35 and Phil Jacques 33. Barbadian all rounder Dwayne Smith hammered in 25 from 15 balls with two fours and a six. David Hussey supported Bravo with 2 for 16. |

T&T cricket captain Daren Ganga says his New Year’s resolution is to make enough runs to take T&T to the four-day title and impress the regional selectors enough, to regain his place on the West Indies team. Speaking to the Trinidad Guardian a day after his brilliant unbeaten 105 guided South to a come from behind win in the Digicel Gerry Gomez Classic, Ganga said he intends to push hard to get back into international cricket. “I know I have to impress the West Indies selection panel and in order to do this, I have to increase the quantity of runs I produce.” Ganga has been out of the regional team since 2008. The last time he appeared was against South Africa in South Africa. |

Following is a WIPA media release issued today: WIPA is dismayed at the response of the Chief Executive Officer of the WICB, Dr. Ernest Hilaire, to its continued recommendation that the Regional Four-Day Tournament should remain two rounds instead of one, as the Board has recently announced.
The main thrust of WIPA’s position is the insufficiency of cricket being played in this tournament which, therefore, does not provide for adequate preparation for participation against opponents from other countries whose state and county competitions are of much longer durations. In fact, our investigations have revealed that West Indies will now be playing the least amount of cricket of all ICC full member countries. The WICB prepared the West Indies team for the just concluded Test tour of Australia with four One Day games and will follow up with seven First Class games and no Twenty20 Tournament for a One Day Tour of Australia followed by the Home Series. There are other obstacles preventing the senior West Indies team from competing on a level playing field with cricketers from other ICC full member countries but lack of preparation should not be one. |

BCourtesy of Duckworth/Lewis calculations, Dwayne Bravo’s Victoria Bushrangers nipped past the Queensland Bulls in the KFC Big Bash opener at the Gabba on Monday evening.
The Bushrangers batted first and scored 157 for 8 from 20 overs with Ross Taylor hitting 58 (36b, 4x4, 3x6) and Bravo contributing a quickfire 36 from 18 balls (2x4, 3x6). When rain forced a premature end after 16 overs of the Queensland run chase they were caught 4 runs short of the winning D/L target at 121 for 6. |

Windies players continued to impress in Australia’s KFC Twenty20 Big Bash as Kieron 'Polly' Pollard topscored in a thumping win for the South Australia Redbacks over Western Australia Warriors at Perth on Tuesday evening.
Pollard smashed 45 runs from 31 balls with four boundaries and two maximums as the Redbacks amassed 196 for 6 in 20 overs. Mark Cosgrove added 42 and Cameron Borgas fired in 34 from 16 balls at the end to push the score within a whisker of 200.
Windies captain Chris Gayle got the Warriors off to an incredible start blasting 40 runs from 16 balls with five fours and three mighty sixes before he was forced to retire hurt with a side strain. He and Shaun Marsh (18) added 60 from a mere 4.1 overs but the last seven Warriors wickets fell for 27 runs as they were all out for 167 in 19 overs to lose by 29 runs. |
