Pollard can be confident of one of the eight IPL franchises expending a significant amount of money to secure his services. Pollard blasted a match winning half century for Trinidad and Tobago against the New South Wales Blues in the Champions League and was immediately branded by IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi as ‘the pick’ for the auction.

The Barbadian pacer who recently impressed in Australia with his blistering and deceptive pace is also sure to secure a substantial deal when the auction is held on January 19th.

Coach Coley backs WI U19 to perform well
Sunday, 03 January 2010 00:00

Andre ColeyCoach Andre Coley has praised the quality of the West Indies Under-19 side and has backed them to perform well at the upcoming ICC Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand.

’Overall we have a very good all-round team. We have players with the ability to perform at this level and win matches,’ Coley said, prior to the team’s departure for the tournament on Thursday.

’The main strength of this side, however, is the team unity and self-belief. The players play for each other and they are a mentally strong group of young men. I am satisfied with mental approach--the way they approach the game and the way they approach pressure situations.

Andy Roberts slams WICB on development
Saturday, 02 January 2010 00:00

Andy RobertsBy Vinode Mamchan

Former West Indies fast bowling legend Andy Roberts has heaped criticism on members of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) for their administration of cricket in the region. Just as in his heyday, Roberts was fiery and called for the directors of the board to explain why no money is spent on grassroots cricket. He said: “To get our cricket back up to a certain standard that is acceptable, members of the WICB need to focus on grassroots cricket. All they do is organise tournaments and this is just a waste of time. What should be their priority is what is happening in places like Westmoorland in Jamaica, Bethel in Antigua and Toco in T&T, but they are not interested in that.”
