Smith smashes Sussex to solid win over Durham

LONDON, England, CMC – Out-of-favour West Indies batsman Dwayne Smith blasted a stroke-filled half-century to propel Sussex to a comprehensive 193-run victory over Shiv Chanderpaul’s Durham in their Pro40 Division One match yesterday.

The right-handed Smith struck 54 from a mere 30 balls as Sussex piled up 277 for six from their allotted 40 overs, before bundling Durham out for a paltry 84 from 24.1 overs at Hove.

We're not surprised that Mr Phil Simmons, the former West Indies batsman, has little interest at this time in the job as coach of the West Indies cricket team. For, given the unceremonious sacking of Mr John Dyson by the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and the current turmoil which has left the Caribbean side without its top players, we believe the regional governing body will have a hard time finding a replacement.

WICB projected to earn US$70 million over next five years

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) expects to earn US$70 million, in revenues over the next five years following the US$24.5 million profit it made from the last Cricket World Cup.WICB expects to earn this revenue up to 2015 from broadcast rights and ticket sales from International Cricket Council events, WICB president Dr Julian Hunte said in his statement accompanying the release of the board's financials.
