Guyana Claim Fifth Straight Title

Jamaica prevail over T&T, rain washes out Barbados-Leewards in the WINDIES Under-19 One-day Championship

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – Guyana followed up tidy bowling, led by Kevelon Anderson, with solid batting to earn a seven-wicket victory over hosts Windward Islands today and capture the WINDIES Under-19 One-day title for the fifth straight year.

The Guyanese finished with 27.8 points, finishing 5.5 points ahead of Trinidad & Tobago, whose chances hit a snag when Sanjay Brown and Kirk McKenzie shared seven wickets to bowl Jamaica to a four-run victory in the final round of matches.

The Jamaicans ended with 20 points, 1.2 more than Barbados, whose final matches against Leewards ended in a no-decision following a series of rain days.

Hosts Windwards were fifth with 17.2 points, Leewards were sixth on 8.8 points and Canada finished at the bottom of the seven-team table with 0.6 points.

At the Arnos Vale Sports Complex: Anderson grabbed 4-26 from 7.5 overs, as the Windwards were bowled out for 105 in 33.5 overs.

Qumar Torrington helped complete the demolition job with 3-26 from nine overs and Joshua Jones snapped up 2-23 from seven overs, as no Windwards batsman distinguished himself.

Guyana stumbled to 14 for two in the fifth over before Kevin Sinclair came to the wicket, hit 39 and shared a third-wicket stand of 63 for the third wicket with Sachin Singh.

Sinclair made 32 and Singh, not out on 27, guided the Guyanese safely to their target.
