Match summary: Blackwood Team 230-4 off 87 overs (Nkrumah Bonner 90 not out, Shayne Moseley 39, Kavem Hodge 39, Rahkeem Cornwall 2-50)

Nkrumah Bonner closed the opening day just 10 runs short of a century as he guided the Blackwood Team to a solid score after they batted first on a placid pitch. The tall right-hander has so far batted 4 ¾ hours and faced 200 balls while hitting seven fours and two sixes. He came to the crease at 47-1 when Kieran Powell was caught by Nial Smith off spinner Rahkeem Cornwall. Powell looked in good touch with three fours in 31 but fell to a head-high catch at deep mid-off. He shared a solid opening stand with fellow left-hander Shayne Moseley, who made 39 – with four stylish boundaries down the ground.

From there Bonner took charge and formed several good partnerships. The most productive stand was worth 88 for the fourth wicket with Kavem Hodge. The pair came together in the middle session at 130-3 and were parted at 218 when Hodge was trapped in front by left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul. Hodge offered steady support to Bonner as he made 39 off 90 balls which included five boundaries. Earlier Bonner added 51 with the skipper Blackwood who made 23, before he was trapped in front to left-arm seamer Preston McSween.

The match continues on Thursday at the same venue at 9:30am (8:30am Jamaica Time). West Indies players are using the match as part of their preparation for a two-match Test series in Sri Lanka next month. The series is the second of six series – three at home and three away – that West Indies will play in the 2021-2023 ICC World Test Championship.
